What is your role at AXA IM?
I am part of the Sales & Marketing team within Distribution, based in Hong Kong. My role is to cover a target group of institutional investors such as sovereign wealth funds, central banks, corporations, and pension funds in order to win new business.
What does your work involve?
My days vary a lot, depending on the needs and demands of clients as well as discussions with investment consultants.
The Asia Pacific region is extremely large and countries are very different from one another. My region of coverage is the South East Asia part, and therefore I frequently travel to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines to meet with my clients.
In practice, my job entails a combination of technical, marketing and relationship management skills. It requires me to know our in-house products and investment processes thoroughly, in order to present them effectively and ultimately make people investing in our products in a profitable way.
I also learn a lot about local market trends, cultural differences and regulatory developments. There are a wide variety of client and product opportunities in the region, but the key is to remain focused.
What do you enjoy the most about working at AXA IM?
Working in Asia is a great opportunity for me to deepen my knowledge of the investment management industry, use my language skills, and build on my previous professional experience in London and Paris.
Being based in Hong Kong really adds to the excitement. Hong Kong is a fast-paced, vibrant city offering an excellent base to travel around the region and make new friends. There are numerous business opportunities, but there are also many things to do outside work. This really is a very enriching and rewarding experience.
